Samantha ran her hand down her face as she apparated to the bookstore. Remus was all taken care of and off to school, now she was heading off to work. She had one of her assistance open for her in the morning while she was bringing Remus to the train station. Even if he was sixteen, she enjoyed going to the station, going through the wall between nine and ten. She was a child like that. Even after all these year, she enjoyed it. She had done it many times before, and it would never get old. She rolled her eyes at herself. She was ridiculous sometimes. Opening the door, she smiled at the other workers.
She knew it must be weird for them to work for someone who looked so young. She just smiled at the thought and headed to the back of the store. ‘If only they knew,’ she thought. It was a little odd at first. Most of the other workers were at least twice as old as Sam looked. She got over it quickly though. Hell, she had lived for over a century, she knew she was going to be able to get over all these girls’ silly thoughts. She loved being able to hear their thoughts without them knowing. Sometimes she would screw with them, other times she’d just listen and see if there was anything they were complaining about. Especially work.
She set her things down in her back office and came back out. There weren’t really many people in the store. Of course, school has already started, so there would only be a fair few every now and then. Samantha never complained though. She always looked forward to the month before school. Seeing all the new first years and the other familiar faces of the older years. She had even thought about going back for another couple years. It was always fun for her. And the history classes had always changed what they were learning. It was always fascinating to her.
She wandered up and down the aisles, checking each book, making sure they were all in the right spot. After going down four aisles, she had two stacks of books following her. As much as she loved her customers, she hated having to straighten up. She always found it too time consuming. Even with magic. But she took care of it anyway, because she liked taking out the old books and adding new ones that came out. Books were her closest friend. They were always there when she needed them, or just wanted to get away for a little while.

Cold. It was cold outside and Ted didn't like it. He had been living in a hotel, which was better then when he first got here; he slept in an alley. He was ill for a few days afterwards, thanks to the cold, but he'd gotten over it. He was able to get a job working with owls, and he was doing fine. He couldn't bring himself to ask what year it was when he first got here, but he was getting some things together. He couldn't think back on what his future wife must be thinking! She would have been worried sick, or worse! Thought he left her! His thoughts had been this panicked the last few days, and it wasn't doing his health any good. Thankfully, he had the day off from work, and could just wander around. He had to face the fact he may never get home, and once he had found out what year it was here, he wondered what that stupid gnome could really have done to him. He sighed, and ran a hand through his hair, not even wanting to know what color it was. Most likely green, when he panicked, green tended to show up for some odd reason.
He walked through Diagon Alley, and he glanced around. Everything seemed some what the same, but he wasn't supposed to be working in Diagon Alley, he was a teacher, and that's what he loved, besides his wife. Or who would have been his wife, but who now probably hated him and had cursed his name, his family and everything else about him; all the way down to his stupid coloring hair, and eyes. He sighed, hanging his head, and he had to get out of this cold. It was getting to him. He pushed the door of the first shop he saw, and a rush of air hit him in the face, thankfully it was warm. He shivered lightly, and he shook his curls around.
He looked up, and he smiled. Books! He was literate enough to read these sometimes! He smiled and he ran his fingers through his hair, and he looked up, shoving his hands into his pockets, and he started down some aisles, glancing around as he did. He could really use a book to keep himself from stressing out at night while he was supposed to be sleeping. He found the books about animals, and he stopped. There was a book about gnomes he had wanted to read in his time, but he couldn't find it right now. He made a sad face, he had really wanted to read that.
He looked around, he wanted to ask someone. Maybe he was just looking in the wrong place. He saw a young looking girl, who struck him as very familiar for some reason. He guessed it was just him being weird, so he walked closer and he spoke, "Excuse me, there was a book on gnome farming I saw somewhere once, do you know if it's here or not? I can't remember who wrote it, or I would tell you. I'm not always good at remembering things like that." He spoke, scratching his head lightly.

Sam was still wandering around the bookstore, stacking misplaced books on the stacks floating behind her and placing some back in their right homes. At least she had something to do. She hated coming to work and having nothing to do. It was horrible, and she usually just ended up re-organizing some aisle. She was very meticulous about the books in the store, ever since it was given to her from the previous owners. They liked that way that she kept it, and told her that when they passed, it would be given to her. They treated her like their own and even left their last bit of money to her, since they never had kids.
She knew she’d never actually die, unless she was killed, but she was glad that she had someone to leave everything to, if anything did happen to her. She frowned slightly at the thought. She hated thinking about dying. Hell, she had lived for a century and no one, but the ones she told, knew what she was. And they were both dead. She ran her fingers through her hair and shook her thoughts. That was enough thinking about that. She had sulked over Remus and Ted a good long period when she had found out about their deaths. They didn’t need it anymore.
She was in the middle of the front of the store when she heard the door open. She felt a little bad for not greeting him, and for the fact that no one else did. At least she was actually doing something. They other women were most likely just standing around. She rolled her eyes at the girls and continued putting some books away. She paused when whoever had come in, spoke to her. Her eyebrow rose slightly. His voice sounded extremely familiar. She turned her head slightly to have a look at owner of the voice and her eyes widened. He looked even more familiar than his voice.
She shook her head after a moment, after she noticed herself staring at the man. “Oh, uh…just there,” she said, pointing to the very first aisle. As much as she hated the things, she had made an entire section for gnomes after Teddy had gone. She knew how much he loved them, and was sure there were others that needed to know about them. Either to get rid of them, or capture them, (like Teddy.) She tucked some hair behind her ear and watched the man as he wandered off. She knew it couldn’t be who she was thinking of. He was dead. Or…was to her knowledge.
She looked over to the hall to the back of the store when she heard someone call her name. She sighed and waved her hand over the floating books, making them sit on the floor. She took another glance at the man, and headed to the back room. She was definitely thinking of hiring new people. It was just a simple mix-up in an order she had made, and the others didn’t know how to fix it. She just signed a couple things and handed it to the delivery wizard. The others thanked her and she just nodded as she left.
She still had other things to do, like put books away and stare at the strangely familiar customer. She came to her stacks and waved her hand over them again, making them rise. It was so much easier like that. She put a few away in their spots before heading towards where he was. She had books that needed to go back there, and she just missed their spots. Her back was facing him, but she glanced over her shoulder as she spoke, “Did you find what you wanted?” she asked. She was naturally curious and wanted to hear him talk again. She knew his voice and wanted to place it.

Things could really suck at times. He was stuck in a place he didn't know, in a world that didn't know him, as far as he knew. He could have died years ago in some freak magic accident and he wouldn't have even known, but then, he'd appear back in someone's life and shake their whole world. He didn't want that, he didn't even want to shake people's worlds up on a daily basis; take that sexually, or however, he didn't want to do either. He wasn't the type, he hated surprises, and that went both ways. He was awful with gifts, and he couldn't keep a secret to save his life.
He just didn't like situations that made him have to keep secrets. Though, he lived with one, his father was a wolf, and his woman was a bat. It happened, and he moved on. They weren't secrets to him, they were just things people didn't need to know, it was different, he could keep them that way, and if he was asked, he walked around it. He wasn't ever asked though, so that really never mattered; which was awesome because he couldn't lie for shit. Do you know how hard it is to lie with hair that changed with emotions? (Or for no reason really, but it still could have looked just as bad if that were the case, which sometimes it was. He couldn't make it stop somedays! It was just a revolving door of colors!)
And, this was one of those situations that made him want to curse like a Muggle sailor, and kick things. Well, fuck a duck, she looked familiar, didn't she? How long had she worked here? Did she..well, yeah, he guessed his Sam did work here, but it wasn't like she still...well, he guessed she would. She wouldn't get old, but he did. Did he still teach? Did she know him? She didn't acted like it, he was glad. He couldn't tell her. "Oh, thank you." He said, his hair turning blue. He made an awkward face, and stiffly turned towards where she pointed, trying to act like his hair hadn't just done that.
As she walked away, he relaxed his shoulders a bit, his hair turning green this time. Dammit, he was going to figure out a way to stop this problem if it was the last thing he ever did. He looked back at the shelves, "An entire gnome SECTION!? This store is fantastic!" He mumbled to himself, his voice carrying through the store. He was used to talking to himself, it wasn't a problem. He'd done a lot of it recently. Some patrons of the hotel he was living in really did think him insane. Loony Lupin, and stuff. IT wasn't a big deal, he was probably insane.
And,she was back. His shoulder stiffened, and he looked at her, his hair going blue again. "And more, thank you. Lovely store." He said, trying to make conversation. "Though, I suppose I shouldn't expect any less from a Brooks." He said, dropping a hint he didn't mean to. He looked at his shoes, "My name's...Ted...Sawyer..." He said with a lopsided grin, nervous, but happy to some extent. Well, if he wasn't supposed to meddle with time...technically, he didn't. His gnome did, and now he was paying for it.

If Sam was going to be iffy about the man standing in front of her being Ted, she didn’t have to be anymore. As soon as his hair changed color, she knew it was him. She hadn’t met many Metamorphmagi in the time she was around. Tonks, and Teddy were the only ones she had met. And she had met a lot of people. Besides, she had watched Teddy grow up, so she knew what he looked like. Unfortunately, with him gone, she hated thinking about him, but would because those memories always made her feel better. Those were the only good times in her life. Sebastion had sort of ruined it for her all those years ago. But thankfully, because of him, she was able to have a sort of normal life with Teddy.
When she was off in the back of the store, she had concentrated on Teddy. She smiled when she heard him speak of the entire section. She had always hoped that he’d like it, so she was glad that he was here. As she thought that…her brows furrowed. He was dead, or…to her knowledge he was. She was going to find out afterwards what happened. She was most likely going to have him over to the house she (they?) owned and talk it over. She never liked using her telepathy with him. And as much as she really wanted to know, she was going to restrain herself, and just ask about it later. She knew he couldn’t lie. Let alone to her.
When she asked him if he found what he wanted, she smiled at his answer and waved her hand over her stacks and sent them off to put themselves away. She wanted as much time with him as possible. Even if she left work early with him. She didn’t care. It was her store now, and she was paying the insolent women to apparently do nothing. So she knew the store would be fine. Her eyebrow rose slightly and a small smirk played on her lips. Yup, this was definitely Teddy. He was the only one that knew how much she loved books and how she dreamed of working here or even owning it…and now she had both.
Without warning, her eyes teared up. She hadn’t actually looked, spoken to, or touched Teddy in years. Even after he introduced himself as “Ted Sawyer” she couldn’t help wrapping her arms around his waist and nuzzling her face into his back. “Yeah, yeah…Sawyer, whatever,” she mumbled into his jacket. She was just happy to feel him. “Oh Teddy,” she said, lifting her head up, “I’ve missed you so much.” She wasn’t exactly planning on telling him what she knew, but she was extremely happy, and she couldn’t help herself. This was going to be very interesting.

He really didn't know what was going on, but he was sure giving himself away, wasn't he? He wanted to just sort of scoot out the door, and run down to play with the owls, but even in a crowd, natural green hair stood out, or whatever the hell color his hair was at this point. He could be easily tracked, she could also read his mind, and smell him. He really wasn't going anywhere now that he had been spotted. He would say he wanted to, but he knew he really didn't. He never wanted to go anywhere, not now that he'd found her again, though he'd only seen her a short time ago, but really, it had been decades. Weird thought.
So, what happened now? He wasn't sure what came now. He looked at the books about gnomes, but really, he wasn't looking at them, he was off in his own thoughts. Was she married to him? Were there two hims now? Were there kids? His kids? He knew she couldn't biologically have kids, but adoptions happened, right? He would love children, would they respond to him well? Would they respect him at all, he didn't even know.
And, she came back. He lied to her face, after he probably gave himself away. Damned hair. He swallowed, and he scratched his head as she latched onto him. He was out, his secret was out. He looked around awkwardly, though the embrace was as familiar as his hair changing color. Missed him? "Where'd I go?" He asked, putting an arm around her waist. "I disappeared here too?! Dammit gnome!" He mumbled to himself.
He looked down at her, and he smiled, "So, what's new here?" He said with a cheerful expression. His face was nearly always cheerful, but it was more so then usual now. He was glad to see a familiar face, very glad.

Samantha was just so happy that she had Teddy that her eyes started tearing up. She couldn’t exactly help it. It had been a while. She quickly wiped them and looked up at him when he spoke. She bit her bottom lip and dropped her gaze. She didn’t exactly plan on spitting that out. She was just so excited that it sort of just…came out. “Uhh, don’t worry about it,” she said, looking back up at him. "I'll explain later." She gave him a small smile. She didn’t want to tell him that he had died at such a young age, but at the same time, he was probably expecting to run into his future self, and if he asked…then maybe she’d tell him? The whole thought was confusing.
She was glad when he had asked what was new. She’d be able to steer him away about questioning more on what she had said. She didn’t need to think about it anymore than she had. She smiled again. “Here? Oh nothing that great. There’s a horrid new Headmistress at the school. We don’t get along very well,” she said with a smile. She was glad she didn’t get along with Priestly. That woman was never in a good mood, and she was glad her son was always causing trouble. Hell, half the time Sam was the one sending him the ideas, (knowing the consequences of course), and always made sure he knew what to do so he wouldn’t get into trouble. "And I own the book store now, obviously," she said with a soft giggle.
She knew it’d be a little weird for them to be standing in the middle of her store just talking about everything. That…and her employees didn’t need to hear their conversation. She tucked some hair behind her ear. “Hold on a sec,” she said, before leaving Ted. She walked back to where the other were standing. “I gotta go for the day guys. Family emergency, you know the deal.” She gave them a smile, even as a couple protested and moved back to Teddy. “We’re gonna go to hom…to my place,” she said, pulling her wand out. She wrapped her arms back around the man she loved and concentrated before feeling that familiar tug and disapparated out of the store.
They were in Lupin Manor in a matter of seconds. It was simple on the inside. When they picked the home, they didn’t want to make the inside all complicated. Of course, that didn’t mean the walls were bare. Each one had a few pictures hanging on them. From wedding pictures, to honeymoon pictures, to random candids of the two. She even had a wall of just her and Remus as he grew up. As soon as they appeared in the house, Sam knew that there was going to be a flood of questions, but there was no place else that was more private. This was the best she could do. She went into the kitchen and filled a glass of water for her. “Do you want anything, Ted?” she called, head poking out of the kitchen. Merlin how she missed that.
